Introducing AUSEPTI - U.S. Equity Plus Trend On Every Dollar

The Auspice October blog introduces the Auspice U.S. Equity Plus Trend Index (AUSEPTI), the first published active return-stacking index calculated and disseminated by the NYSE, and the Direxion U.S. 500 Plus ETF (SPXP) that seeks to track it. Return stacking is not new, and our research points to a much larger allocation to managed futures than most investors hold. Held as a separate line item, a diversifier can trail equities and, in our experience, is often cut before the bear market it was bought for. In our view, holding trend following on top of equities, on the same dollar, may help investors act on the math.

Story vs Price - Why We Follow What We Can Measure

The Auspice September blog looks at why commodity fundamentals so often tell the right story at the wrong time. Gold was expected to hedge the post-COVID inflation surge, yet it fell as US inflation climbed to 9%. Silver's fundamentals remained bullish as it dropped over 50% from its January peak, and copper is near record highs even though exchange inventories climbed this spring to their highest in more than 20 years. In our view, price and volatility are the truths we can measure, and a disciplined, rules-based process built on them is designed to follow trends rather than predict them.

The Outlier Opportunity - When to Swap the Beta Sprint for the Active Marathon

The Auspice August blog examines the exceptional three-year run in commodity beta and what the record says about holding it from here. Since October 2023, the Bloomberg Commodity Index has returned a stretch only a handful of entry points in 26 years have matched. Most three-year holds look nothing like it. The index has historically offered either continuation or a violent exit, and a passive position has no mechanism to tell the difference. In our view, the question for investors seeking commodity exposure is increasingly whether the vehicle used can participate in upside while managing the risk of the inevitable periods of weakness.

Why Traditional Commodity Exposures don’t Meet this Moment

The world is becoming too complex for the ‘tried and true.’ That has already become the consensus for Canadian equity investors, who are rapidly moving to diversify their exposures beyond North American stocks. This has been the consensus in fixed income, too, where the blending of active and passive approaches, as well as government bonds and credit, has helped investors maximize yield. Tim Pickering believes that commodity investing requires that same upgrade.

Why These Commodities Could Be Better Bets Than Gold in 2026

While gold’s performance since 2023 has been outstanding, it is neither an inflation hedge nor does it represent commodities broadly. Tim Pickering highlights that structural demand from technology, infrastructure and supply constraints across metals and energy markets, combined with broader economic and inflation dynamics, may offer compelling opportunities within the commodity complex beyond headline assets.
